In honor of Earth Day (and Earth Month), we wanted to dive into what eco-conscious options are available when furnishing your home—whether it be a reclaimed wood table or even an Adirondack chair made from recycled milk bottles! By seeking products made with sustainably harvested wood, you’re reducing your environmental footprint but also, as a consumer, you’re letting companies know there is demand for such products.

Recycled and Reclaimed

As you may already know, recycled products are derived from raw or processed material that can be recovered from a waste stream for reuse. What you may not know is that the most unexpected materials can be recycled into the most unexpected furnishings! When it comes to wood, FSC-certified recycled wood means it’s been broken down by machine-processing to create an entirely new product.

Take the Boothbay Adirondack chair, pictured below. This durable outdoor staple is made with FTC polyethylene lumber—coming originally from recycled milk jugs. Made right in the USA, in Indiana, these chairs meet all of FTC’s Green Guidelines. Who knew?

Now take the Canton Bedroom, pictured below. The wood here is made of solid reclaimed and recycled pine and comes from old shipping pallets and crates found throughout Asia. The Canton bedroom is made of reclaimed, mixed wood with natural knots and graining for a richly organic look. [/caption
