Furniture Care 101: Upholstery
Posted On January 13, 2012
Furniture is an investment and we all know the last thing you want to do is make a bad situation worse by using the wrong cleaning techniques. So we thought we'd put together a few simple tips for extending the life of your upholstery.
First, be sure to check the fabric cleaning code of your fabric upon purchase. Cleaning codes can be found on your furniture's tag or on the Boston Interiors website under the 'product specs' tab for your item.
There you'll find 1 of the 4 basic cleaning codes listed...
Tip #1: Always pretest cleaning agents in an inconspicuous area before tackling a stain.
Tip #2: Always blot (do not rub!) stain with a
colorfast cloth to prevent the spreading of dyes and minimize the size of the stain.
Tip #3: Never use strong chemicals or detergents. Refer to your cleaning code to find whether you can use water-based cleaning agents or any cleaning agents at all.
Tip #4: Clean spots from the outside in to prevent saturation rings.
Tip #5: Occasional vacuuming of your upholstery will prevent any dirt from rubbing into the fabric and creating stains.
Note: If professional cleaning is an option, that is always the preferred method. Boston Interiors offers a professional furniture protection plan with the purchase of most our items. Boston Interiors furniture protection plan must be purchased prior to the delivery of items in your home.
