Tips for Selecting the Perfect Dining Chairs

Here are some simple steps to follow to ensure you'll love your dining room chairs. Step 1. Select Your Table. By selecting your table first you can use it for style, material choice, size, and color inspiration when picking out the chairs.

Determine Chair Size. Once you know the size of your table, you can begin to figure out how many chairs you will need accommodate that space. A few things to keep in mind; the ideal seat height is 18”- 19”, keeping a minimum of 12” between the seat and the tabletop. Seat width can vary, but in general for maximum comfort, look for a chair with a width over 18" and between 20”-24” deep.

  Step 3. What's Your Style? When selecting the right style for your chairs look to your dining table for some answers. If your table is a square or rectangular shape with crisp lines, look for chairs with similar straight legs and a square seat or back. If your table is round or oval look for chairs with more organic features like curved legs and an arched back. They do not have to be a perfect match, but keeping the design elements in common will tie them together.

  Step 4. Portability. Keep in mind that you’ll need to be able to move your chairs in and out from the table. If the chairs are too heavy this might make moving them cumbersome (especially for children and elderly persons). Slat back or cut-out back chairs make for an easy grip.
